Conor McGregor: "Mystic Mac" returns to answer the biggest question in MMA
Conor McGregor (22-6) finally returns to the Octagon for the first time since suffering a broken leg against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.
One of the sport's most iconic figures, the Irishman built his legacy on spectacular finishes and even more spectacular predictions, famously declaring himself "Mystic Mac" before repeatedly delivering on fight night.
Now aged 38 and returning after a five-year layoff, questions inevitably surround McGregor. Ring rust, durability and whether he can still perform at the elite level remain unknowns. Yet McGregor insists the prolonged absence has only refreshed him.
"It's going to be an absolute demolition," McGregor told CBS Sports on Paramount+. "I know the damage he's taken. I will just have to touch him, and after that, it will be clinical."
At his best, few fighters have ever matched McGregor's precision and knockout power. If even a glimpse of vintage McGregor remains, Holloway faces a dangerous assignment.
Max Holloway: "Blessed" looks to spoil the comeback and settle old scores
Max Holloway (27-9) enters the biggest fight of the year with the opportunity to ruin McGregor's long-awaited return while avenging a loss suffered back in 2013.
The Hawaiian has established himself as one of the greatest featherweights in UFC history, building a reputation on relentless pressure, elite boxing and endless cardio. A former BMF champion, Holloway owns memorable victories over Justin Gaethje, Brian Ortega and Chan Sung Jung.
This bout also marks Holloway's welterweight debut, adding another fascinating wrinkle. While naturally the smaller man, his durability, volume striking and championship experience could prove invaluable against an opponent returning from an extended absence.
Benoit Saint Denis vs Paddy Pimblett: Lightweight title implications on the line
Benoit Saint Denis (17-3, 1 NC) enters UFC 329 riding a four-fight winning streak, most recently stopping Dan Hooker in impressive fashion.
Aggressive from the opening bell, the Frenchman thrives in chaos and knows a victory could move him within touching distance of a title shot.
Liverpool's Paddy Pimblett (23-4) returns looking to rebound after suffering the first UFC defeat of his career against Justin Gaethje earlier this year.
Despite that setback, "The Baddy" remains one of the promotion's biggest personalities, and defeating Saint Denis would immediately re-establish him among the lightweight elite.
Conor McGregor vs Max Holloway prediction
Their first meeting took place almost 13 years ago. This version of McGregor and Holloway is vastly different.
McGregor's route to victory is obvious. Early success is crucial. Even after five years away, his timing, precision and counter-striking remain dangerous weapons, particularly in the opening rounds.
Holloway's path appears far more attritional. Few fighters in UFC history maintain pace and output like "Blessed", and five years on the sidelines is an enormous obstacle for McGregor to overcome. If Holloway survives the early danger, his relentless pressure could become decisive over five rounds.
McGregor's return is one of the sport's great unknowns. Expect the Irishman to have moments early, but Holloway's volume and recent activity should eventually swing the fight in his favour.
Prediction: Max Holloway to win
