Overwatch 2’s titans: The top esports teams you must check out

Overwatch 2 is one of the newest and most popular FPS games in the current video game industry, with a quickly-rising esports scene. Before betting on OW2 esports, you should be familiar with the top teams you can look into.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

• OW2 still has a superb esports scene despite the dissolution of the Overwatch League.
• Teams have been built off the foundation of the OWL (Overwatch League) and its players.
• Success in OW esports is not just because of the team, but it is also dependent on the changes that Blizzard has made to the game.

There are only a few video games that have reached the pinnacle of competitive gaming better known as esports. One of those games is Blizzard’s Overwatch and Overwatch 2. This popularity has made people want to bet on the Overwatch 2 esports teams and root for a specific result, making the games more fun to watch.

The evolution of Overwatch esports through the years

Before Blizzard released Overwatch, they were already a titan of the esports world. StarCraft is at the top of the industry, but Warcraft also joined them as one of the best esports games in the market. They even had Heroes of the Storm at one point, but Blizzard reached the pinnacle of the esports scene again with Overwatch esports.

Overwatch became such a big hit among gamers that it influenced plenty of players to pursue an esports career. The most successful Overwatch pros came from South Korea, a hotbed of high-level esports talent.

When the Overwatch League started, it was mostly a North American league with all the franchises. However, they always had some South Korean players since they were often considered the best country at Overwatch. This has continued through the years, as the Koreans still dominate the Overwatch 2 esports scene.

After the OWL folded, Overwatch 2 started to have an esports scene in 2023 akin to what you see in other games like Dota 2 and Valorant. The Overwatch Champions Series consists of regional tournaments, but it concludes with the Finals like how The International ends the Dota 2 season or Champions is the ending for Valorant’s season.

Criteria for the top Overwatch 2 teams

When betting on Overwatch 2 esports, you should know how to gauge the teams you are making predictions on. Learn the factors you must consider for your Overwatch 2 betting at Gamdom. Here are the criteria to determine the teams you should be looking at:

• Performance across major tournaments - When you watch the teams and look into the results, you should be able to gauge how they can perform ahead of the tournament or match you are betting on. Consider the past results and head-to-head match-ups between the two teams playing.

There might also be some history with the players themselves, as they could have played for other teams in the past. Make sure you tick all the boxes from the previous results, so you can have a better understanding.

• The amount of star-level talent on the team - Ahead of your bets on a certain match-up, it is important to recognise that some teams have star-level talents that make them stand out among the rest.

If a star player is carrying an Overwatch 2 team, you will notice that when you dive deeper into the team. Having that kind of talent on a roster can be considered game-changing due to their ability to dominate and change the complexion of a series.

• Consistency through different metas - The metagame is an important part of any esports title, and the same goes for OW2. Every time you bet on the Champions matches, you should know what the meta is, so you can determine which team has the best chance of winning even if the odds point you to picking one option.

The top Overwatch 2 teams you must know

In Blizzard’s premier team-based first-person shooter game, there have been plenty of teams and players who can be considered elite. Since the game has been a phenomenon since 2016, some players have formed teams that could be considered the best in the world.

Here are some standout teams you must be aware of:

Team Falcons

As a consistently dominant force in the Overwatch 2 scene, the Falcons deserve to be at the top of your choices for being a favourite for any tournament. They are known for their aggression during matches, but they pull it off with spectacular coordination.

Falcons are hard to game plan against as they often switch between many strategies during high-pressure matches. Every Falcons match-up is a must-watch because they put on some stellar performances.

You can always see the Falcons having some highlights during the games as they take risks, but they still win games. They can out-talent almost any other team, but they are a cohesive unit, which makes them such a tough match-up for any team since they could win almost every match they play.

Spacestation Gaming

With the reputation of being one of the most innovative teams in OW2, Spacestation Gaming has been amongst the most impressive teams in the scene. They have a more analytical approach when it comes to playing the games, as they are not as fast-paced as the previous one, and they rely on their plan.

SSG have experienced players, so they are good enough to catch their opponents off guard by preparing stronger strategies. This kind of team is a tough one to gauge for opponents, but when you are betting on SSG, you should expect a strategic team, but you should not count out the talent on the roster.

Crazy Raccoon

As one of Asia’s best representatives, Crazy Raccoon is known for their unpredictable gameplay. This makes them a good team to watch and bet on as they can surprise the opponents and make them lose due to CR being the only ones who understand what is happening with their wild gameplay.

From the structured SSG to the wacky CR team that loves to experiment with off-meta picks. This might be a team that goes against a stable team to bet on, Crazy Raccoon could be considered a wild card when betting on the game.

Expect the skirmishes in the game to be a fun experience, especially if you are watching a confident Crazy Raccoon team. The bold approach they want to look into makes them such a strong presence in the tournaments.

Toronto Defiant

With a roster filled with talented players ranging from veterans to promising youngsters, Defiant is one of the most reliable teams you can bet on. They have some of the most well-rounded gameplay levels in the OW2 scene, mixing in the usage of tanks and DPS (damage dealers) well.

If you are looking for a team that knows how to adjust well to their opponents, Toronto is one of the teams you should watch out for. They have the synergy and tactical nous to continue being a top team in the market.

NTMR

A team that has risen to the Overwatch 2 team ranking due to its strong resilience and ability to adapt to almost any situation, NTMR is one of the most impressive teams as of late. They have some of the best teamwork you can find in any OW2 team.

If you want to see a team that is successful at the highest level but plays like underdogs, this might be the team for you. Getting that kind of team competing at the top of the OW2 scene makes it exciting to see. Get the best team play possible with NTMR, which gives you a shot at winning the best bets possible in the OW2 tournaments scene.

Pro players you should watch out for in Overwatch 2

The Overwatch 2 space has some of the most talented esports players you would ever get the pleasure of watching. There are plenty of top-tier talents within this game, who came from OW1 that have brought their excellence to the second game.

Here are the top players you should be on the lookout for:

• Choi ‘MER1T’ Tae-min (Toronto Defiant) - One of the most dynamic DPS players in the space, you can always rely on MER1T to pull off some massive play due to his precise aim and penchant for stepping up in times of need. His signature heroes are the sniper Widowmaker and the chaotic Cassidy.
• Lee ‘LIP’ Jae-won (Crazy Raccoon) - LIP has continued to be one of the most exciting players in Overwatch due to how aggressively he plays. Positioning is a big deal in the game, and LIP loves putting himself in aggressive positions to get kills for his team.
• Park ‘Viol2t’ Min-ki (ZETA DIVISION) - As a support player, Viol2t does not get the spotlight as most DPS players do, but his ability to save his teammates from tough situations has been impressive. With standout performances with heroes like Baptise and Kiriko, Viol2t deserves recognition.
• Kim ‘Proper’ Dong-hyun (Team Falcons) - With his reputation as one of the most dazzling players in the space, Proper has continued to be one of the best players in OW2. He is an aggressive player who knows which opponent to target, as he always knows the objective.
