Early History and Success

The Bundesliga was founded in 1962 in Dortmund and saw a season just a year after. Since then, a total of 56 clubs have played in the league. Bayern Munich is considered to be the most prominent club in the league, having won the title 29 times - which is most among the rest of the clubs combined.

The Bundesliga has seen a lot of legendary players as well. The player with most appearances in the German league is Charly Korbel from Eintracht Frankfurt. He played a total of 602 games from 1972 to 1991 and never switched teams ever since.

Gerd Muller is the top scorer for the league with a total of 365 in just 427 games. He played all of his games with Bayern and has been a legendary figure to follow. The only active player in the top 10 is Robert Lewandowski, who has a total of 259 goals and counting in 338 matches played.

The Polish star has scored 74 goals in 131 matches for Dortmund while making 185 of those in just 207 games for Bayern. He is on the pace to play for more matches, which means that he might have a chance at breaking Muller’s record soon.
